Memorial Day, initially generally known as Ornament Day, was first noticed on Could 30, 1868, to honor the Union troopers who died within the Civil Warfare. In 1971, Congress handed the Uniform Monday Vacation Act, which established Memorial Day as a federal vacation on the final Monday in Could.
